Brad

Spring felt like it was here last month, but we are officially there.  Our ASCE Board year is now halfway complete.  Our Branch has managed to continue our long tradition of great achievements from our DISD STEM outreach to Future Cities and Girl Scouts, we help to enhance our profession every day.

Personally, I am looking forward to our two upcoming events: (1) The G.B. Mann Scholarship Golf Tournament and (2) the ASCE Dream Big IMAX Film Premiere at the Perot Museum.

Registration is now open for the Golf Tournament, held on May 1 at Brookhaven Country Club.  Sponsorship opportunities are still available.  Remember, proceeds from the tournament go to benefit our scholarship fund.

One of our flagship events this year will be the Dallas Premier of the ASCE Dream Big IMAX Film at the Perot Museum.  Our event is scheduled to be held Saturday June 3, 2017.  The Dallas Branch will be hosting interactive activities prior to the screening and we will be inviting STEM students, Woodrow Wilson HS CE Club members and their parents to this wonderful event.  Anyone is welcome to attend.  Stay tuned for more updates as our planning in finalized.

Sponsorship:  We are working to close out our 2017 sponsorships for our monthly Branch meeting and Golf Tournament.  Even if your firm has not contributed in the past, please consider supporting the Branch with your financial contribution this year, to benefit our Scholarship Fund and Branch activities.  Ashley Chronister, our Fundraising Chair and her team have done a fantastic job reaching many of our current and past sponsors.  If you need information or have questions, please email Ashley at [email protected]

Scholarships: We are looking for applications for our G.B. Mann Scholarship. The scholarship is available to the local high schoolers within our area.  If you know any high schoolers who are interested in pursuing a career in Civil Engineering, please encourage them to apply here on our website or contacting Phillip Packer, PE at [email protected].  Applications are due at the end of April.

On a sad note, Jennifer Roath, PE, our Education Chair and Young Engineer of the Year, has accepted a new position in Houston and will be leaving us after several years of phenomenal growth in our STEM outreach.  Her shoes will be hard to fill.  Join me in wishing her all the best as she heads to Houston.

Please join us at our next Meeting, April 10th.  Our speaker will be Duane Milligan, P.E., Director of Construction with TxDOT Dallas District.  He will update us on the current status of the TxDOT Dallas District projects including the Dallas Horseshoe which is TxDOT's first design-build project.  Before and after the lunch, the Institutes will once again have Technical Sessions providing a great opportunity to earn up to three (3) PDHs each month.
