Civil Engineering Club Update

The past couple club meetings have been focusing on Geotechnical Engineering.  First, the students experimented with making stronger subgrades for their piles of bricks.  It was demonstrated that a lone pile of sand cannot support many bricks, but if we use just a few paper towels as a sort of geogrid, we can strengthen the sand for our foundation.

 
 
 
This past week, we had Hugh Kelly, PE, PG, from Parsons Brinkerhoff give a presentation on what he does as a geotechnical/geological engineer.
