President's Message - August 2018

Dear Dallas Branch Membership:

Your Board and team of leadership volunteers with Julie Jones leading from the front pulled off a fantastic July joint meeting!  In case you missed it, with total registration count of 274, we had standing room only in several morning technical sessions and an exciting luncheon program. I was also pleased to see so many of us sticking around for the hour of ethics with David Howell, Deputy Executive Director of TBPE. Thanks to David and all technical speakers for participating in this event. A special appreciation goes to our meeting Sponsor AECOM for providing an outstanding keynote speaker, Steven Duong, AICP, and Associate Vice President – AECOM.  Mr. Duong told us how Texas is in a prime position to become the first region to have Hyperloop transportation service. How exciting!  I’m looking forward to that 30 minute tube ride to San Antonio.  How ‘bout you?  I also want to recognize our Technical Session Sponsors BGE (TDI), LCA Environmental (EWRI) and Freese and Nichols (GI).           

It’s that time of year again!  Your Nominations committee will convene this month to consider candidates for Officers to serve 2018-2019.  The announcement and nomination form are circulating through our web site, emails and social media. It’s time to step up, lead, follow or get out of the way!  Of course, we’d much prefer you lead and this is a great opportunity to do so. There are always committee positions you can step into as lead or co-lead, but several Board level positions are in a normal state of transition that will require filling.   See me or any of your officers and committee volunteers for details. I promise you will find a fulfilling opportunity to serve our branch.      

Don’t forget to sign up for CECON 2018 in San Marcos (September 19-21) and the Texas Section Younger Member Camping (September 21-23).

Well, that’s it for my August President’s Message. Just two more to go before passing my gavel on to your President Elect Anthony Luce!   I’m looking forward to seeing everyone back at the Vouv on Monday August 13^th  when Chris Hoff, PE of JACOBS will provide us with a Midtown Express project update.
