Volunteer Recap

ASCE members volunteered at three events in May.  See below for what we did and how you can get involved.

First, Paulina Cristoforo hosted a booth at the annual Girl Scouts STEM Grand opening.  The girls got to model a watershed using crumpled paper, blue markers and water sprayers.  The Girl Scouts are full of critical thinkers and I know this activity got the wheels turning in some of their minds.

Then, Bradford Russell gave a PowerPoint presentation to classes of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at John F. Peeler Elementary about engineering in general and how he got to this point in his career.  Hopefully his efforts will encourage some of those kids to pursue their dreams and one day help shape the world along with the rest of us.

Finally, Michael VerHoef and Dean Huffine had a great time at Botello Elementary during Botello’s Career Day.  They represented ASCE Dallas and got kids excited about engineering. Check out those bridges!  One piece of paper folded any way you like across an 8" gap then load tested with pennies. New high scores were rewarded with a handful of candy!
