President's Message - June 2018
Dear Dallas Branch Membership: I am so very grateful to our younger membership for carrying the load during Younger Member month which included an exciting event packed week focused around Global ASCE President Elect Robin Kemper’s visit to our branch on May 14-15th, accompanied by our Section leadership Lindsay O’Leary (Section Executive Director) and Larry Goldberg (Section President). They all participated in a packed agenda including Woodrow Wilson CE Club visit at Ventana by Buckner, our own luncheon meeting, SMU/UTA campus visit, Younger Member Happy Hour, the long awaited Texas ASCE Centennial Plaque dedication at the Old Red Museum, and the Infrastructure Report Card panel discussion at the Vouv. My thanks and congratulations to Jonathan Brower for such a fine job running the April board and luncheon meeting while also orchestrating all these events with the able assistance of so many others. Lisa Woof did a wonderful job organizing the interesting and informative IRC panel discussion which included Fiona Allen (Trinity River Authority), and Mo Bur (TxDOT Dallas District). Thanks also to Past Dallas Branch President Sean Merrell, the plaque unveiling at the Old Red Museum was a who’s who of ASCE, with Global President Elect Robin Kemper, past and present Executive Directors Lindsay O’Leary and Cres Guzman, Texas Section President Larry Goldberg, as well as numerous Dallas Branch and Texas Section Past Presidents in attendance and talking ASCE history like Dan Hartman, Jack Furlong, Bob Patton, Doug Smith, Curtis Beitel, and Roger Begham, just to name a few (special thanks to Roger for being the official photographer of the event). I don’t have space to mention all the notables here! See the photos of the group which should be circulating about in social media and elsewhere. Many thanks to Lisa Woof, Julie Jones, Jennifer Smith, Ed Penton, and all the others on the board and committees for making this such a memorable and successful visit for President Elect Kemper and all the distinguished visitors here to celebrate with us. I hope to see you all at the May meeting for our Construction Institute morning tech session, lunch time with Dr. Ham (UTA) telling us about all about sustainable inspection systems and the afternoon T&DI tech session. Mark Boyd, PE
President
