President's Message - May 2018
Every year ASCE Dallas sets aside the month of May as Younger Member Month. The goal of Younger Member Month is to celebrate our Branch’s Younger Members while also challenging them with the duties and responsibilities that are typically handled by the President, President-Elect, Vice-President, and other board members. So that means this month our Branch President, Mark Boyd, gets a month off from running our monthly board meeting and luncheon! As Branch Director, I will do my best to fill-in for Mark alongside all of our other Younger Member volunteers. For those of you that don’t know, the Younger Member designation is bestowed upon our members who are 35 years of age and under. This year’s Younger Member group has a huge step up on running the meeting as we already have two YMs, including myself, serving on the Board along with a few others serving in chair positions. The Dallas Branch is especially excited to welcome ASCE President-Elect Robin Kemper to the DFW area during the week of our Branch Luncheon. Her visit will include attending both the Dallas and Fort Worth Branch Luncheons, campus tours of SMU and UT-Arlington, the Texas Section Centennial Plaque Dedication, the Texas Infrastructure Report Card Panel Discussion, and a couple of site visits to some major construction projects going on in DFW. Robin will also be installing the Dallas Branch’s new Life Members at the Dallas Branch Luncheon. You can learn all about her visit here: http://dallasasce.org/articles/PresidentElectVisit Please come out to join us for any of these events! We will also have some very special guests in attendance at the Branch Luncheon with ten students from our Civil Engineering Club at Woodrow Wilson High School joining a number of Younger Members at the front row of tables. The CE Club students will be visiting the luncheon as part of their daylong field trip that also includes a site visit to the Ventana towers under construction at the intersection of Northwest Highway and 75 and a tour of the HILTI Research and Development facility! At this month’s luncheon, we are happy to welcome Khalid Naja, the DFW Airport Executive Vice President of Infrastructure and Development, as our main speaker. More information on the main speaker and this month’s technical seminars can be found in the newsletter. See you at Vouv Event Center on May, 14th, 2018! Jonathan Brower, PE
