President's Message - April 2018

Mark Boyd

Have I mentioned recently how blessed we are to have such talented and energetic leadership? That’s my first thought as I sit down to write my President’s Message each month. I decided to start by expressing my personal appreciation for everyone on the board and their supporting committees. I’m so very grateful for everyone’s active participation and diligence. Without them there is certainly no way I could keep up with everything we have going!

The upcoming April meeting should prove to be an interesting one. Tim Abrams, our Public Relations and Outreach Chair, attended the ASCE Legislative Fly-in on March 13-14. I’ve invited Tim to the front table to provide a brief report to you about infrastructure initiatives and other nuggets of information gleaned during his trip to Washington. Also, our main speaker will be General Tom Kula former Commander and Division Engineer, U.S. Army Engineer Division, of the Corps of Engineers, now Executive Director and General Manager of the North Texas Municipal Water District, speaking to us about the Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir projectOur Technical DirectorGary Dreighton is once again putting on his usual morning and afternoon sessions on timely geotechnical and structural topics (see meeting notice for details).

Looking just a bit down the road, I’m excited about Global ASCE President Elect Robin Kemper’s visit to our neck-of-the-woods May 14-15th when she will participate in a packed agenda including CE Club visit, our Dallas Branch luncheon, and the Centennial Plaque installation at the Old Red Courthouse.  I’ll have more detail on President Kemper’s visit in my next message.  Be on the lookout for announcements about her time here.

See you at the April meeting!

Yours in service to ASCE,

Mark Boyd, PE
