E-Week at the Perot Museum

ASCE helped the Perot Museum celebrate E-Week earlier this week by sending some of our members to run the penny bridge activity.  In this event, kids walked up because of the candy and stayed because of the competition.

We challenged students and teachers alike to suspend as many pennies as possible across an 8” gap using only 5 paper clips and 1 sheet of paper.  The record?  $5.72.  We were definitely getting kids excited about engineering with those numbers.  It was especially interesting to me to watch as an idea that improved the design spread so quickly to other students.

Thanks so much to the firms and people who supported ASCE in this endeavor.
