Speaker: Thom Powell, AIA LEED AP BD+C
 Topic: "The Perot Museum of Nature and Science - A Wide View of Substainability"


Mr. Powell currently is the Sustainability Consultant for the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in collaboration with mOrphosis and the Executive Architect on the AT&T Performing Arts Center Box Office in collaboration with Foster + Partners.  He was the Executive Architect on the recently completed Annette Strauss Artist Square in collaboration with Foster + Partners.  Past Arts District projects also include Project Architect for the Crow Collection of Asian Art and the Hamon Recital Hall in I.M. Pei’s Morton H Meyerson Symphony Center.

His work with Good Fulton & Farrell Architects has included 1407 Main Street, winner of the 2009 Downtown Association award for contribution to the historic Main Street in downtown Dallas.  The project has been published in World Architecture News and FAR2000 in Asia and has received an AIA Dallas design award in 2011.   Mr. Powell graduated with his Bachelor of Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and received his Master of Architecture from Syracuse University. He also completed a year of both under-graduate and graduate study in Florence, Italy.

Mr. Powell will serve on the Texas Society of Architects Board of Directors, representing AIA Dallas in 2013-14 and as the Vice Chair for the North Texas US Green Building Council in 2013, and Chair of the organization in 2014.  He has served as the AIA Dallas Treasurer for 2011 and 2012.  In 2010, he served as the AIA Dallas Commissioner of Environment and Design, in 2009 he chaired the AIA Dallas Design Awards Committee and in 2008 & 2009 chaired the AIA Dallas Committee on the Environment (COTE).  In 2008 Thom won the AIA Dallas “Young Architect of the Year” award and has served on the Board of Directors of the North Texas USGBC since 2009.  In 2011, he served as TSA Convention Tour Organizing Committee chair
