President's Message - January 2018
Dear Dallas Branch Membership: Our New Year’s blessings have started off with a big bang! Congratulations to Immediate Past President Frank Pugsley and his entire 2016-2017 Board and Leadership team for the distinctive honor conferred by the ASCE Global Leader Training Committee as Outstanding Section and Branch Award for Large Sections and Branches. This prestigious award will be formally presented at the 2018 Regions 3, 6, and 7 Multi-Region Leadership Conference on Saturday, January 27 at the Hotel R.L. in Omaha. The Dallas Branch will have representatives in attendance to receive the award presented by ASCE President Swallow. An ASCE Virtual Recognition Award for display on our web site will be available soon, so watch for that! We are in good company, the full list of award winners were: For the upcoming January 8th meeting we’ll have Texas Section’s own Infrastructure Report Card committee leader Travis Attanasio (City of Haslet, City Engineer) speaking to us about the recently published Texas ASCE Infrastructure Report Card (IRC). If you were wondering what this report card process is like or have questions about the grades, come prepared to ask Travis! Larry Goldberg, our current Texas Section President, will also be on hand to make a brief presentation and join us in celebration of our Outstanding Section Award. Our Technical Director Gary Dreighton will host his usual quality morning and afternoon technical sessions in an easy to find room adjoining the main banquet hall at our new venue. Don’t forget our “Move to Vouv!”. Our January 8 luncheon meeting, technical sessions, and all future meetings will be held at Vouv Event Center 4445 Sigma Road, Dallas (just 5 minute drive from the Crowne Plaza location, more announcements, driving, and parking instructions coming soon). Branch volunteers and Vouv staff will be outside directing traffic and parking, as needed, to help us adjust to our new surroundings. I look forward to seeing everyone at our new venue, ready to kick off the year in style! On behalf of our talented award winning Dallas Branch volunteer board and committee champions, I wish for you rewarding, productive and joyous times during the upcoming New Year! Yours in service to ASCE, Mark Boyd, PE
