President's Message - December 2017

Mark Boyd

Dear Dallas Branch Membership:

Congratulations to our Dallas Branch communications committee! Dallas Branch ASCE was just recognized by ASCE Global Leadership Training Committee as runner-up for the 2017 Outstanding Section and Branch Web Award. I was thrilled to receive our certificate in the mail just a few days ago. Credit and praise are due to our Webmaster Jignesh Thakkar, Communications Chair Phillip Alcorn, Newsletter Editor Colton Gill, and Social Media Director Jonathan Brower.  Please join me at the meeting to personally thank Jignesh, Phillip, Colton and Jonathan for their noble outstanding service to our Branch!

For this special Holiday meeting coming up December 11, we are honored to have Mr. Rick Galceran, City of Dallas Director of Public Works providing a rundown of just what Santa has brought to the City as part of the November 2017 $800 Million Capital Bond Program election. My own firm LCA Environmental, Inc. (LCA) is pleased to be sponsoring the meeting this month. This will be our last meeting at the Crowne Plaza.  We will not be having any technical sessions after the main luncheon and will instead be hosting a holiday reception. Please join us for the luncheon program and stick around afterward for a festive visit with your Dallas Branch colleagues (no shop talk!) for dessert and coffee just outside the banquet hall.

Don’t forget our “Move to Vouv!”.  Our January 8 luncheon meeting, technical sessions, and all future meetings will be held at Vouv Event Center 4445 Sigma Road, Dallas (just 5 minute drive from the Crowne Plaza location, more announcements, driving, and parking instructions coming soon).

Ho! Ho! Ho! We will also be wrapping up our 2017 Christmas is for Caring Denton State School drive at the reception. Thank you to everyone who has donated this season and over the years. The need persists and your donations are greatly appreciated.   We are fortunate to have Quinn Spann championing this drive year after year. Bring your cash with you and help us make this the best year yet!

I look forward to seeing everyone for some dessert and great networking. On behalf of our talented Dallas Branch volunteer board and committee organizers, I wish for you the happiest Holiday season ever and blessings throughout the coming year!

Yours in service to ASCE,

Mark Boyd, PE
