President's Message - October 2017

Greetings Dallas Branch.

It happens every year at this time, the weather cools off from 96 degrees to 92 degrees, and your current President pens their final “President’s Message.” I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve our Branch as president over the past year. While the Branch executed or participated in a multitude of external activities over the past 12 months, the following are the ones I think you should be most proud of:

• Implementation of the DISD STEM outreach agreement. Our members were working with students throughout the past school year.
• Expansion of the DISD Civil Engineering Club to a second High School for the 2018-2019 school year.
• Dream Big: Engineering Our World movie premier at the Perot Museum.
• Hurricane Harvey relief donation to the Coastal Bend relief fund.
• Awarded scholarships to an amazing pair of high school seniors, now currently pursuing a Civil Engineering degree.

While this is just an abbreviated list, our Branch committee chairs and officers are constantly busy working to provide outreach activities throughout the year. Each chairperson sets goals when we kick off our year, and I am proud to say we achieved most (but not all) of those ambitious goals, giving us plenty of room to grow next year.

The next meeting is Monday October 9^th, 2017. Our speaker will be Jenna Covington, PE of the North Texas Municipal Water District, discussing the NTMWD wastewater Capacity, Management, Operations and Maintenance (CMOM) Program. Additionally, before and after the main program, join the Institutes for additional Technical Sessions providing all attendees the opportunity to earn 3 PDH’s for your one luncheon fee.
