President's Message - September 2017

Brad

Hello Dallas Branch Members. As we all continue to watch the tragedy unfold along the Texas coast, I know our thoughts and prayers are with all our family, friends, and strangers living (and displaced) in that area. There will be a great deal of work ahead of our State in the years to come, and I know that Civil Engineers are ready to get to work, making our world a livable place for all.

I would like to thank Steve Stagner, President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Texas (ACEC Texas) for speaking to us at our August meeting. I am sure we can all appreciate ACEC’s efforts to lobby for the interests of the civil engineering profession at our State capitol. Our legislature has been busy with a wide range of bills, and having our industry representative summarize those of importance to civil engineering is valuable, as we conduct our day to day business.

All members should have received the 2017 ballot for Officer elections via email. Brad Hernandez, Past President and Nominations Committee Chair, was on hand to announce the 2017-2018 Slate of Officers at the August meeting. All current members are encouraged to vote online prior to the next meeting. You may also vote by paper ballot at the meeting, if you are not able to access the online vote. Your 2017-2018 Slate of Officers is as follows:

Make plans now to attend our September meeting, Monday the 11th. Our speaker will be Mark Farrow of Alliance Geotechnical Group. He will present his industry experience regarding Large-Scale Geotechnical Lessons Learned, a topic of great importance in north Texas. Before and following the luncheon the Institutes will host Technical Sessions for additional opportunities to gain those much needed PDHs.

Have a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend. We will see everyone in two weeks.
