President's Message - March 2017
Spring is right around the corner (or already here), and the Dallas Branch is almost half-way through our year! On February 16th, hundreds of our fellow engineers from all disciplines attended the TSPE E-week Award Luncheon at the Plano Centre. At the event, I was honored to recognize our Engineer of the Year and Young Engineer of the Year Doug Smith, PE and Jennifer Roath, PE. Each of them have contributed so much personal time and effort to our organization and profession over the past year. Doug serves as our Past President’s Committee Chair, and Jennifer as our Education and Outreach Chair. If you were unable to attend, I encourage you to make it next year, and be sure to congratulate our honorees if you see them at the meeting. Sponsorship: We are working to close out our 2017 sponsorships for our monthly Branch meeting and Golf Tournament. Even if your firm has not contributed in the past, please consider supporting the Branch with your financial contribution this year, to benefit our Scholarship Fund and Branch activities. Ashley Chronister, our Fundraising Chair and her team have done a fantastic job reaching many of our current and past sponsors. If you need information or have questions, please email Ashley at [email protected] Scholarships: We are looking for applications for our G.B. Mann Scholarship. The scholarship is available to the local high schoolers within our area. If you know any high schoolers who are interested in pursuing a career in Civil Engineering, please encourage them to apply here on our website or contacting Phillip Packer, PE at [email protected]. We have begun researching future potential venues for our growing meetings and want your feedback on this important decision. We have put together a survey asking for your input which will be emailed to you this week. Please take a moment to fill it out - the survey itself takes less than a minute to complete. Please join us at our next meeting on March 13th at the Crowne Plaza Addison. Including the technical sessions before and after the luncheon, you have the opportunity to earn up to 3 PDHs. As a reminder, ASCE meeting attendees are not required to self-pay for parking at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. While the hotel has begun charging ASCE for parking, this fee is paid directly by the Branch. Frank Pugsley, PE
President
