Brad

Happy New Year Dallas Branch:

I hope everyone enjoyed the December meeting and holiday social.  I am sorry to have missed the fun due to illness (Isn’t elementary school the best incubator?). I would like to once again thank Quinn Spann for organizing the ASCE Dallas Branch donation to the Denton State Supported Living Center through the Christmas is for Caring fundraising drive. Our members generously donated $1,801.00 to provide basic personal items to adults in need.

At the last meeting, everyone should have had the opportunity to view the 2017 corporate sponsorship opportunities, which were at each table.  We cannot continue to provide our membership with the opportunity to network and learn as well as provide scholarships to future civil engineers without the continued support of our corporate sponsors.  Your sponsorship message reaches over 1,400 ASCE members and 7,500 recipients on our mailing list.  If you need more information, please contact our Fundraising Chair, at [email protected].

As I mentioned last month, we have many special events planned for our Branch in 2017.  Planning is now in full swing for the Golf Tournament and for the Premiere of the ASCE Dream Big IMAX movie at the Perot Museum (May 2017).

Also of note this month, we have received word of two very special awards/recognitions:  Our very own Jonathan Brower has been selected as one of the Top 10 New Faces of Civil Engineering-Professionals for 2017!  Jonathan represents the bold and humanitarian future of civil engineering.  Additionally, the Dallas Branch has been given a 2016 Outstanding Section and Branch Award Certificates of Commendation.  The recognition is awarded to Sections and Branches that were selected as the runners-up for the Outstanding Section and Branch Awards.

Please make plans to join us at the January Branch Meeting where you can earn up to 3 PDHs.  Our luncheon speaker will be Mr. Mo Bur, P.E.; TXDOT Dallas District Director of Transportation Planning & Development. We also hope to see you at the TSPE E-Week Awards Luncheon in February.
