Brad

Hello Dallas Branch:

I would like to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you were all able to spend some time with family and friends last week. At our house, we asked the oldest 3 cousins (age 5, 6, & 6) what they would do if they were president; their responses were (1) Make the world a swimming pool, (2) Make everyone eat pie, and (3) Improve police training (no joke).

Thank you to all who attended our November meeting to hear the three generations of the Furlong/Little family discuss disaster preparedness and planning. Additionally I want to thank the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Dallas Post for joining us again this year and honoring the veterans serving in the military.

I would like to apologize for the mix up concerning our monthly scholarship raffle. Our Scholarship Chairperson was unable to attend at the last minute, and we did not have a backup plan in place. I assure you that we have already made plans to limit disruptions in the future.

Your new Officers and Committee chairs have been hard at work laying the foundation for another successful year at the Dallas Branch. Over the past month we have been working on the following important items:

  •        Finalizing the 2016-2017 Budget
  •        Planning the 2017 Golf Tournament
  •        Updating the 2016-2017 Sponsorship opportunities
  •        Coordinating with TSPE for the annual E-Week Awards Luncheon
  •        Assisting Future Cities with their fundraising

As noted above, we are finalizing the sponsorship opportunities for the upcoming year. We greatly appreciate our corporate sponsors, whose generous contributions allow us to host our monthly meetings and continue providing meaningful scholarships to civil engineering students. Your sponsorship message reaches over 1,400 ASCE members and 7,500 recipients on our mailing list. Be on the lookout for the forthcoming flyer, and if you need more information, please contact our Fundraising Chair, at [email protected].

In closing, please join us at our upcoming meeting on Monday, December 12th. The speaker will be Michael Morris of NCTCOG, discussing the NCTCOG Mobility Plan. Following the luncheon, we will hold our annual holiday gathering in lieu of a technical session. Please join us in the foyer for dessert and networking with your fellow members. At the gathering, you will also have the opportunity to make a donation in support of Christmas is for Caring, supporting the Denton State Supported Living Center.
