Edwin Allen Smith, P.E., 1946 - 2016

ASCE Member, Edwin Allen Smith, P.E., passed away in McKinney on August 19, 2016. Ed enjoyed a four decade long career as a civil engineer, which moved his family from Minnesota to Colorado, and finally to Texas. In Texas, Ed worked for and with the City of Plano, Carter and Burgess, NTTA, and most recently Jacobs Engineering.  Of those who know Ed, many will remember that his jovial personality and warmth could fill a room.  He was everyone's favorite "uncle" and mentor. When Ed was not on a construction site or office, he could be found enjoying golf, working on his plane and cars, skiing, and traveling. He found his biggest joy in his family and especially his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife, Peggy, and three sons, Grady, Darin, Riley (and their spouses), his 6 grandchildren, and other close family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, August 26, 2016 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen TX.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org/honor.

Ed’s obituary may be found at this link.

With Ed's passing, the civil engineering community has lost a coworker, colleague, and most importantly a friend. His infectious smile and service to the community will not be forgotten. Our condolences to the entire Smith and Winter family. We will miss you, Ed!
