Younger Members May 2016 Update
The Dallas Younger Members Group is kicking off 2016 with a great start of unique events. We began the year with a joint Volunteer and Have a Beer event with the Dallas Education committee to help clean up the Girl Scout Camp Rocky Point. After a morning braving the cold, our team of awesome volunteers met in downtown Plano to reward themselves with BBQ and brews. In February, our YM’s turned up the heat with our first Karaoke Night at the San Francisco Rose in Lower Greenville. A small group of runners represented Dallas YM at the Annual St. Paddy’s Dash Down Greenville 5K. Our second March event was a group Happy Hour at the Lion and Crown in Addison. Due to torrential rains and the subsequent flooding, our highly anticipated Texas-wide Camping Trip at Lake Whitney was postponed from April until September 9th-11th. This event has a maximum capacity of 120 campers; at the time of reservations, 112 of those spots were filled from 8 branches around the state! Because the date has been changed, reservations will open up to new campers at a closer date. This May, our YM group is excited to host a joint membership recruitment event with SEAoT and EWB at the Sandbar in Deep Ellum. New grads from SMU and UTA will be able to meet and greet with Younger Members from the three organizations to get a feel for what each offers and network with civil engineers in a variety of fields. Come out and join us May 19th for some sand volleyball and happy hour specials! With rising temperatures during the summer months, our YM Committee has concocted a great lineup of events to help you beat the heat and represent your team! Our College Rivalry event in June should bring out some exciting competition, and in July we’ll be keeping the fun indoors with both a Volunteer and Have a Beer event at the North Texas Food Bank and a Sunday Funday event at Bowl and Barrel. Keep an eye on our newsletter for more information on these upcoming opportunities to hang with other YMs and find new hidden gems within the Dallas metroplex.
