Julie

I bet you’re wondering why this month’s President’s Message is not from Brad.  This month, Dallas ASCE is celebrating Younger Member month.  To recognize our Younger Members, the responsibilities of coordinating the monthly lunch meeting will be delegated to members who are 35 years of age and under.  From registration through the end of the meeting, the Younger Members are stepping up and carrying out all the activities involved in execution of our monthly lunch meeting.  This is a great opportunity for Younger Members to gain a better appreciation of ASCE and let them learn more about the leadership positions available to our membership.

On May 19th the Dallas Branch YM Group will host a recruiting event for both the SMU and UTA graduates to join us for a happy hour social event at Sandbar beach volleyball lounge and find out how they can continue their involvement in ASCE after college. See the YM article for more information and stay tuned to the website and Facebook for more details!

This month we will be recognizing several individuals during our meeting.  We welcome the teacher and students of the Civil Engineering Club at Woodrow Wilson High School.  We will also recognize all of the ASCE Fellows and present the newly inducted Lifetime Members of ASCE.  To become a Lifetime Member, you must have reached the age of 65 years, have paid dues in any membership grade except Student Member for at least 35 years, and have had 10 years of continuous membership immediately preceding the attainment of this achievement.

I hope you can join us at this month’s luncheon on May 9th, 2016. We look forward to hearing Benchmark Harris’ presentation on storm shelter design in North Texas.  More information regarding this month’s technical seminars and main speaker can be found in this monthly newsletter.
