Support for the UTA ASCE Student Chapter

This year we have many activities going on for the ASCE Student Chapter at the University of Texas at Arlington. These activities include the concrete canoe, steel bridge, and ASCE Leadership Conference. We are also proud to announce that the University of Texas at Arlington ASCE Student Chapter is hosting the Texas-Mexico Conference 2014 Steel Bridge Competition. The ASCE Student Chapter is reaching out to the local engineering community to obtain your support to make these events a success. The Steel Bridge Competition will be held on the dates of Jan. 17th and Jan. 18th of 2014 at the Maverick Activities Center located on The University of Texas at Arlington campus. This year there should be at least 10 student chapter teams competing for the honors of going to the national competition.

The purpose of the competition is to provide civil engineering students with a comprehensive project experience involving the design and building of their own scaled down steel bridge. The students are required to do their own design, fabrication, erection and testing with client specifications. The competition is scored based on:

  • Display
  • Construction Speed
  • Lightness
  • Stiffness
  • Construction Economy
  • Structural Efficiency
  • Overall Performance

In addition to working on a project outside of a traditional class room setting; it teaches civil engineering students to develop the skills of:

  • Teamwork
  • Innovation
  • Project Management
  • Professionalism

Through generous contributions from our ASCE student chapter supporters; we can make this event a success. This support will be used towards the competition to:

  • Accommodate 150-200 students representing their schools
  • Properly prepare the competition venue
  • Provide awards banquet

Your support makes a difference; please take a moment to consider partnering with us for the 2014 Texas-Mexico Conference Steel Bridge Competition. Help us to develop the civil engineers of future generations.

This event is not only about the students. There are benefits for a company to become involved. As a company it gives the opportunity for you to:

  • Increase visibility to future, motivated recruits
  • Help further the development of students in civil engineering
  • Show your support for a local engineering university

We have several sponsorship and advertising opportunities available for you to contribute to this event. The different levels of sponsorship and advertising are shown below. For more information about donating to the UTA ASCE student chapter, contact Dr. Jim Williams, P.E. at (817) 272-2201 or via e-mail at [email protected].
