President's Message - August 2015

Posted by webmaster on 07/31/2015 12:00 am  /   President's Message

Hello Dallas ASCE members, last month we enjoyed a Joint Meeting with the Fort Worth Branch in Arlington. Fort Worth Branch put together a great technical and luncheon program. We also had a fantastic group of volunteers from the Dallas Branch that coordinated with Fort Worth for weeks leading up to the event. Big thanks to the officers and registration team that made the check-in process go smoothly.

For the luncheon, Mayor Jeff Williams shared his insight as a civil engineer stepping into his new role as mayor of Arlington. In his presentation, he spoke to how civil engineers are great candidates for public service; especially given our understanding of building communities through infrastructure. Hope this inspires or challenges some of you to consider this calling like Mayor Williams did.

NOMINATIONS
As the 2014-2015 year draws to a close in two more months, August is the Dallas Branch’s month for nominations. If you or a colleague who have been interested in getting more involved with leading the Branch, please contact Kristin Green, Past President ([email protected]) and Nominating Chair. There are opportunities for leadership for Board of Direction (officer) and Committee (chair) positions. Officers are nominated in August, elected in September, and installed in October. Committee chairs are appointed by the incoming president (Brad Hernandez, President-Elect, [email protected]) with recommendations provided by our Nominating Committee.

AUGUST MEETING
For August we have speakers from our sponsor Hilti sharing about innovation in software that assists in their structural design. Please see the meeting announcement for more information. Thanks to our monthly meeting sponsors for the support!

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Angela Matthews, P.E.
