Morning Technical Session at 11am - Presented by Construction Institute Speaker: Dudley McFarquhar, Ph.D, PE, Dist Eng Topic: Building Envelope Facades - Key Role in Building Performance Dudley McFarquhar, Ph.D, PE, Dist Eng is a building enclosure consultant and CEO of McFarquhar Group Inc. Dr. McFarquhar has over 26 years experience. He taught in the Civil Engineering Department of Texas Tech University and has extensive experience in engineering consulting, design, forensic investigation, repair/restoration of building exterior enclosures and related litigation support. Dr. McFarquhar conducted extensive research in window glass strength behavior and investigated both tornado and hurricane damage on exterior wall systems as part of an ASCE task group. He has published over 20 papers and wrote the book Curtain Wall: A Primer. Some of his notable projects include New Parkland Hospital and Winspear Opera House, Dallas Tx; NationsBank HQ, Charlotte, NC; Federation Tower, Moscow and the Hong Kong Convention Center. AMEX Building, New York post 9-11 remediation and rehabilitation. He is a National Board member for Building Enclosure Technology Environmental Council and member of ASCE, TSPE; Architectural Institute, AEI and ASTM committees C18 and E06. Dudley McFarquhar, Ph.D, PE will present on the role of the building envelope as the first line of defense against the environment and key its key role for exterior aesthetics. Three examples of building types will be discussed: a state-of-the-art hospital (New Parkland Hospital, Dallas TX), a commercial residential tower (The Tower, Ft Worth) and an Opera House (Winspear Opera House) to illustrate some unique characteristics associated with building facades. Topic: LBJ Express: A Corridor Like No Other! Maurice Pittman, P.E., is the Project Manager with the Strategic Projects Office currently managing the IH 635 LBJ Express project. In this role Maurice’s primary goal is the contract administration of the $2.7 billion roadway. Maurice has 28 years’ experience with Texas Department of Transportation in all phases of construction, design, and maintenance and project management. He has managed large construction projects such as: US 75 in Richardson and Dallas, High Five and Loop 12/SH 114 Interchange. Maurice worked as an Assistant Area Engineer for the West Dallas County office; he has extensive experience working with various cities both in Dallas & Denton Counties as well as Dallas County in developing, funding and delivering of many local projects. Maurice Pittman, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Louisiana Tech University.
