Technical Session #1 at 11 am is presented by the ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI)

Speaker: Duane E. Peter - Versar, Inc.

Duane E. Peter (M.A., Southern Methodist University, 1980) is a professional archaeologist with 38 years of experience in cultural resources management and all phases of archaeological research. Mr. Peter is the Vice President and Cultural Resources Technical Service Leader for Versar, Inc., and has previously served as a Vice President of Geo-Marine, Inc., for 26 years. He has directed the evaluation of potential impacts to historic properties, whether archaeological, architectural, or structural from either current and/or proposed activities for projects ranging from a singular structure to actions that potentially impact resources in multiple states. Mr. Peter’s direction of the Freedman’s Cemetery project resulted in recognition by the Council of Texas Archeologists (E. Mott Davis Award for Excellence in Public Outreach) and Preservation Texas (Outstanding Effort in Preserving the Multicultural History of the State of Texas).

Mr. Peter is an active member of the Council of Texas Archeologists and is presently President of the American Cultural Resources Association, a national trade associations dedicated to promoting excellence within the industry and achieving balance between development and the management of cultural properties.

Technical Session #2 at 1:10 pm is hosted by Engineers without Borders (EWB)

Julie Jones, P.E. co-founded the Northwest Arkansas EWB-USA Professional Chapter and the University of Arkansas EWB-USA Student Chapter in 2005, and she is now president of the North Texas Professional Chapter. She was the Arkansas State Representative for the South Central Region of EWB-USA from 2005-2009, Vice President from 2009-2011, President 2011-2013 and she currently serves as Texas State Representative of the region. She is also a Program Chair for Dallas Branch of American Society of Civil Engineers. Julie attended the University of Arkansas where she received her B.S. in Civil Engineering and her M.S. in Civil Engineering, both with an emphasis in Environmental Engineering. She holds a Professional Engineer License in Texas, and she has worked at Nathan D Maier Consulting Engineers, Inc. in Dallas for the Water Resources Division for seven years.

Engineers Without Borders is a non-profit, humanitarian engineering organization. The mission of EWB-USA is to support community-driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with local partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders.
Attendees will learn the history, mission, and model in which Engineers Without Borders - USA approaches and implements its projects with its partner communities utilizing both university students and professionals from EWB-USA chapters throughout the United States.
