Technical Session #1 at 11 am is presented by the ASCE Geotechnical Institute

Speaker: Ronald F. Reed, P.E. - Reed Engineering Group, LP

Ron Reed is founder and President of Reed Engineering Group, LP, a 27 year old geotechnical engineering firm headquartered in Dallas, Texas.  Mr. Reed graduated from Syracuse University and the University of Texas at Arlington, has authored 28 technical publications and 10,000+ engineering reports, and has been active in the Dallas engineering community for over 40 years.

Topic: Performance versus Formula Based PVR Estimates

Differential movement of a structure results in some type of distress, with the magnitude of distress proportional to the angular distortion.  Unfortunately, PVR is both a concept and a specific procedure.  The purpose of this presentation will be to evaluate what estimates of potential movement are and what they are not, and how the unknowns associated with the estimate impact decisions on both private and public/private development. Examples will be included.

Technical Session #2 at 1:10 pm is hosted by the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute

Speaker: John Holt, P.E. - Texas Department of Transportation

John Holt has over 29 years of experience with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) designing highway, pedestrian, and railroad bridges. He is currently the Director of the Design Section for TxDOT’s Bridge Division.

Topic: TxDOT Bridge Design Policies and Developments in Bridge Standard Drawings

John will be presenting on TxDOT’s bridge design policies and recent developments in bridge standard drawings. Lastly, items related to bridge construction in the new 2014 TxDOT Standard Specifications will be reviewed.
