Technical Sessions - March 2015
Technical Session #1 at 11 am is presented by the Construction Institute: Speaker: Teddy S. Theryo, P.E. - Parsons Brinckerhoff, Inc. Teddy S. Theryo serves as a Vice President / Segmental Bridge Group Manager of Parson Topic: “Design and Construction Aspects of PT Spliced Girder Bridge”. Teddy Theryo will present the design and construction aspects of post-tensioned spliced girder bridges, discuss the history, and explain the integral process of their design and construction. Other highlighted topics include fabrication considerations, constructability, design techniques, specifications and durability.. Technical Session #2 at 1:10 pm is presented by the TDI Institute: Speakers: Jaime Beard, P.E., Director & Sean Merrell, P.E., PTOE - Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. Jaime Beard, P.E. is currently serving as the Director for North Texas Site Deve Sean P. Merrell, P.E., PTOE is currently serving as a Region 6 governor. He has served Sean received his B.S. (2000) and M.E. (2001) degrees in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University where he served as the President of the TAMU ASCE Student Chapter. While at Texas A&M University, Sean received the Allen C. Ludwig, Jr. Outstanding Senior Civil Engineering Student Award in 2000. Sean has been married to his beautiful and very understanding wife Elizabeth for 22 years and they have two children, Sasha (8) & Declan (4). Before becoming an engineer, Sean served in the U.S. Army for 6 years as an OH-58 helicopter co-pilot. Sean was born in Buffalo, New York, but is proud to call Texas his home for 24 years. Topic: "Westlake Entrada Development". From the developer of Adriatica in McKinney, comes the new development of Westlake Entrada located in the Town of Westlake. Maguire Ltd. Partnership is creating an ever evolving mixed-use “village” that is roughly twice the size of Adriatica at 86 acres. The development includes retail shops, restaurants, medical offices, entertainment venues, residential homes, and offices surrounding a major water amenity. The project requires roadway widening on the peripheral street while internal streets will be narrow, winding, and hilly to mimic those of Spain. The presentation will highlight the current planning and design for the construction that will start in 2015.
s Brinckerhoff, Inc. Mr. Theryo has 37 years of extensive experience in the design of major segmental concrete bridges and prestressed concrete structures. He has performed conceptual design and final design and proof checking of medium to long-span bridges, specifically, cast-in-place and precast segmental concrete bridges, incremental launching bridges, and cable-stayed bridges. He also has field experience at the construction site of a major cast-in-place segmental bridge project, including post-tensioning tendons investigation and rehabilitation of post-tensioned structures. He earned his M.S. Degree in Structural Engineering and Mechanics, at the University of Washington, Seattle, U.S.A., 1985; B.S., Civil Engineering, Gadjah-Mada University, Indonesia, 1975. He is a professional member of American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI), Post-tensioning Institute (PTI) and Federation of International Concrete (FIB).

He has previously served the Houston Branch on numerous committees and officer positions as well. He has served in numerous committees including the Centennial Celebration Chair for the Texas Section and on the board as the Senior Director at Large. Sean also served on the National ASCE Membership Committee for 6 years. Sean has previously been honored at the ASCE Dallas Branch Engineer of the Year as well as both the Houston Branch and the National ASCE Edmund Friedman Young Engineer of the Year Award. He was also awarded the Government Civil Engineer Award from the Texas Section. Sean has worked at Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. for 10 years and currently leads the North Texas traffic engineering practice. He previously served as the Senior Traffic Engineer with the City of Frisco, TX.
