President's Message - March 2015
Hello fellow ASCE members and colleagues! We had an illustrious month celebrating Engineers and our own ASCE Dallas 90th Anniversary. APPRECIATION. Many thanks go out to the Branch members and leadership that came out to celebrate the 90th Anniversary on February 7th. We are proud and grateful of the following who made the event special: • 15 sponsors donated $13,000 for the event, of which much of the proceeds will go towards the 2015 GB Mann Scholarship to be awarded this May. Please see our Casino Night web page: ASCE Dallas 90th Anniversary for a list of our generous sponsors. Thank you all for your support of the Dallas Branch and the GB Mann Scholarship Fund. OUR HISTORY & HERITAGE. We are still writing the 2001-2014 history and need your help – if you have been a past officer or chair, we have a questionnaire that will assist Historian Andrew Etchison in recording our last 14 years of history. Please contact Andrew at [email protected]. JOINT GOLF TOURNAMENT. This year is Dallas Branch’s turn to host the Annual Joint Dallas-Fort Worth Branch Golf Tournament to fundraise for scholarships. The golf tournament will be fundraising for the GB Mann scholarships to be awarded in Spring 2016. We are finalizing the details and will let you know soon when and where the tournament will be. SPONSORSHIP. With the 90th Anniversary Casino Night passed and meeting sponsorships filled for 2015, there are still opportunities to be a newsletter/web sponsor and/or have a larger presence at the Joint Golf Tournament. Contact Phil Packer at [email protected] for more details. MARCH MEETING. With a growing Dallas and suburbs, traffic has spurred improvements of established highway corridors with fast-track design builds. For the March 9th Branch meeting, we have speakers Kimberly Sims and Tomas Coronado, P.E. from the TxDOT 35Express Project presenting an update on the latest of this highly-visible design-build highway. See you all at the next meeting!
• Our Scholarship Chair, Hossein Hosseiny who spearheaded the logistics of the Dinner, Casino Night, and Fundraising.
• Past President Bob Patton for providing a display of ASCE memorabilia.
• Past President David Schnurbusch for sharing about G. Boley Mann and the Scholarship Fund.
• Past President Sean Merrell for passionately promoting the Dallas Branch 90th anniversary to all Branch Past Presidents, the Texas Section leadership, and Region 6 Board of Governors.
• Branch officers and chairs for promoting the celebration, securing raffle prizes, volunteering before and during event.
Angela Matthews, P.E.
