Upcoming ASCE Award Deadlines
Upcoming ASCE Award Deadlines ASCE gives out many national and local awards annually. This is a great way to recognize someone before their peers and to encourage them to keep up the excellent work and service they provide to ASCE and the community. Texas Section Awards (Due Apr 1) (Nomination form) Award of Honor: The Award of Honor was established by the Texas Section-ASCE to be presented to a limited number of members of the Texas Section “in recognition of service to the Texas Section and outstanding professional achievement in civil engineering.” Professional Service Award: This award is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section for meritorious service to the Texas Section and to one or more of the Section’s Branches upon recommendations of the Honors Committee. History and Heritage Award: This award is presented to an individual (not necessarily a member of the Texas Section) or Branch for making special contributions to recording and/or recognizing the history and heritage of civil engineering in Texas. Service to People Award: This award is presented to a civil engineer (not necessarily a member of the Texas Section) who has distinguished himself or herself with special service to people. The award is intended to recognize civil engineers who bring credit to their profession through community activities that are visible to the general public. Professional Service to Students Award: This Award was established by the Texas Section Board of Directors in October 1999. It is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section for meritorious service to the Texas Section through service to one or more of the Texas/Mexico Regional Conference’s Student Chapters (Clubs). Government Civil Engineer Award: This award is conferred on a subscribing member of the Texas Section employed by a governmental organization for meritorious service to the Texas Section and to one or more of the Section's Branches. John A. Focht, Jr. Citizen Engineer Award: This Award was established by the Texas Section Board of Directors on October 11, 1990 to recognize John A. Focht, Jr.’s outstanding and continued dedication to the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Focht has served as Section Past President and Board Member, ASCE District Director, and Vice President and President of National ASCE. He originated the concept of encouraging members to become better citizen engineers. National Awards for ASCE Members Edmund Friedman Professional Recognition Award (Due Mar 1) - This recognition is awarded annually to a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers who is judged to have contributed substantially to the status of the engineering profession by: Civil Engineer Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Due Mar 1) - The award may be given annually to an owner, founder, principal, or manager of a private company who was primarily responsible for the recent performance of the company and an active member of senior executive management for at least two years Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award (Due Mar 1) - This award was established by the Government Engineers Division to recognize distinguished civil engineers employed in public service for significant engineering contributions as a practitioner in public service.
a. Exemplary professional conduct in a specific outstanding instance;
b. An established reputation for professional service;
c. Objective and lasting achievement in improving the conditions under which professional engineers serve in public and private practice;
d. Significant contribution toward improvement of employment conditions among civil engineers;
e. Significant contribution toward improving the professional aspects of civil engineering education;
f. Professional guidance of qualified young persons who would seek civil engineering as a career; and professional development of young civil engineers in the formative stages of their careers; or,
g. Other evidence of merit which, in the judgment of the award committee, shall have advanced the Society's professional objectives.
