Civil Engineering Club: Spring 2013 Wrap-Up

The first year of the Civil Engineering Club here in Dallas has successfully wrapped up. We met twice a month throughout the spring semester at Woodrow Wilson High School in East Dallas, and did various activities, presentations, and projects to show the students what being a Civil Engineer can involve.

Our last activity for the semester involved designing and building an irrigation system that could move 400 mL of water 3 feet (horizontally), and split it evenly.  The students, in groups of 3, were given limited supplies, and only 40 minutes to design, build, and test their systems.  The students learned how important design can be to a construction project, and how to work efficiently to beat a deadline.

Thank you to all the Dallas Branch members who assisted throughout the semester with the Civil Engineering Club: Hugh Kelly, David Spires, Jonathan Brower, Phillip Pesek, and James Kleineck.
