Construction Institute (CI) Seminar is at 11am

The Dallas Construction Institute (CI) Chapter will have a technical seminar August 11, 2014 at 11:00am. The seminar is titled: “The New Parkland Hospital Construction.” This project involves $1.3 billion construction of a new 2.5 million square feet hospital. The facility will replace the aging existing public hospital and will serve over 1 million patient and visitors annually. The seminar will cover general building program, design highlights, and unique construction features of this major Dallas facility.

The seminar will be presented by John Gardiner of Balfour Beatty Construction. John is Senior Project Manager – Quality Control with the BARA joint venture the constructors of the New Parkland Hospital. Since graduation from the University of North Texas in 1995, John has been involved in various significant projects in the Metroplex, including Gaylord Hotel & Convention Center in Grapevine; One Arts Plaza in the Dallas Arts District; McKinney StarCenter Ice rink facility at Craig Ranch and the OMNI Hotel in downtown Dallas. He has also completed Fort Bragg Army Hospital in North Carolina and UTMB Hospital Campus in Galveston.


Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) Seminar is at 1pm

The Dallas Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) Chapter will hold a seminar following the August 4, 2014 meeting/luncheon at 1:00pm. The seminar is titled: “Dallas North Tollway (DNT) Capacity Expansion and Improvements.” With the development of the surrounding communities on the north side of the Metroplex since the first DNT expansion in 1987, the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) is advancing design of tollway improvements from LBJ Freeway to Sam Rayburn Tollway. The project entails adding new lanes, expansion of the interchange with the President George Bush Turnpike, lighting and ITS improvements, and pavement rehabilitation. The presentation will highlight the current planning and design for the construction that will start in 2015.

The seminar will be presented by Mr. Mark A. Bouma, P.E. Technical Oversight Leader, with NTTA.  Mark has been with the NTTA since 1998 and provides technical leadership and quality assurance over design and construction in the NTTA's Project Delivery Department.
