Carlos Aiken is a Professor of Geosciences, Department of Geosciences, University of Texas at Dallas since 1978, receiving his BS and MS from the University of Washington and PhD from the University of Arizona in geophysics specializing in applied potential fields and exploration and engineering geophysics. He is also part of the UTD Geospatial Information Sciences Program, and previously taught at Texas Christian University . He became involved in satellite positioning in the 1980's and laser mapping in 1995 and has taught courses yearly  at UTD on these subjects and many short courses in various industrial and academic venues, most recently this year in Calgary, Canada for the oil and gas industry. Also he has been involved in scanning projects around the world.
