First Technical Institute Seminar at 11:00 am

The Dallas Geo-Institute (GI) Chapter will hold a seminar prior to the May 12 meeting/ luncheon at 11:00am.  The seminar is titled "Earth Retention Methods for North Texas (New Construction and Remedial Applications)". This presentation will be given by Mr. Art Pengelly - Vice President, Hayward Baker, Inc.

Mr. Pengelly attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, graduating in 1984 with a BS in Construction Science. He began working for Woodbine Corporation in Fort Worth, Texas in 1985 which was soon acquired by Hayward Baker, Inc. in 1988. Over the last 30 years Mr. Pengelly has worked as an estimator, project manager and regional manager as well as serving as both a Vice President for Hayward Baker and President of Craig Olden, Inc. He is currently the Vice President of HB’s office in the DFW area which serves North Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas.

This presentation will be an in-depth, detailed, technical presentation, while a more general presentation on the same topic will be presented to the lunch audience. 


Second Technical Institute Seminar at 1:10 pm

The Dallas Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Chapter will hold a seminar after the May 12 meeting/ luncheon at 1:10pm.  The seminar is titled "Small Movement Bridge Joints". This presentation will be given by Mr. Joe Becker P.E., RJ Watson Inc.

Joe holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan.  During his time at Kettering, Joe interned at Bosch Automotive in Charleston, South Carolina working in Research and Development. He completed his senior thesis in the field of High Speed Laser welding.  He then worked as a Sales Engineer specializing in New Product launches with Bosch Automotive. 

Joe began his Bridge and Highway career working for 7 years at New York State DOT. At the DOT Joe had the opportunity to supervise the construction of over 12 bridges and miles of highway. He concluded his career after successfully completing a 75 million dollar total reconstruction of the waterfront in his hometown of Buffalo, NY.  Joe then joined RJ Watson in 2012 as the Product Manager for their line of Bridge Joint Systems. He works closely with DOT’s, Consultants, and Federal Highway to encourage the use of new technologies developed by RJ Watson. He currently resides in Chicago, IL.
