UT-Tyler Hosting 2014 Texas-Mexico Student Symposium and Concrete Canoe Competition

The University of Texas at Tyler is hosting the 2014 Texas-Mexico Student Symposium and Concrete Canoe Competition from Thurs. April 24th, to  Sat., April 26th and is in need of volunteers to help this event a success.

If you can make it there on Thursday, they could use help with judging the corn hole tournament and the tug of war, and officiating a “friendly” canoe race between the dean of engineering and the campus president. On Friday, the UT Tyler Student Chapter needs help in the following ways: * parking help/directing traffic beginning at 6:30 a.m. * safety officers walking around all day * we need someone "guarding" the door where the presentations take place from 7:30 - 5:30 * one or two people to work at the first aid/volunteer tent from 8:00 - 5:00 * you could help make the ASCE texas chapter make a cardboard canoe for the adults racing in the cardboard canoe races at the end of the day (you would have to coordinate that with Elizabeth Greenwood when you get here) *  we are going to need a few volunteers (towards the end of the day) to go to the lake and help them set up for Saturday's races *  directing traffic at the end of the day *  we also need help with the corn hole

If you plan to be there on Saturday, perhaps you could help with: *  food service and set up *  clean up *  directing traffic at 7:30 AM *  first aid tent *  stocking the drink tank *  ice cream social

The parking detail and directing traffic on Friday and Saturday morning are really early in the mornings, but it is where they need the most man power.  Also if it rains, they anticipate more work that will be added to deal with additional complications, so extra hands on deck will be appreciated.

If you cannot commit to volunteering, you are more than welcome to come out, enjoy the races, and show your support for the student chapters.  The following link is the schedule for the conference activities. Texas-Mexico 2014 Student Symposium
