The North Texas Region Future City Competition was held at the University of Texas at Arlington on January 25, 2014.  The Future City Competition – sponsored by National Engineers Week – is designed to inspire 6-8th grade students about engineering by challenging them to solve the real-world problems associated with building a livable city of the future. Hundreds of North Texas students had been working hard from October through January this past year on their city concepts. Ninety-six (96) teams registered this year to compete in the North Texas Region.  The “Eisenhower” team from HEAR Rockwall Homeschool won the regional competition this year and placed third at the national competition in Washington DC during E-week.  They also won a National Special Award from the Project Management Institute (PMI) during the national competition.

At the Regional Level, other finalists included: the “Hegang” team from McLean Middle School, “Anisotropic” from Dallas Academy, “Kumbharsi” from the Westwood School, “Caballos from the Harts Bluffs ISD, and “Tetra” from Strada Academy.  Along with these finalists, 25 Special Awards were also given to teams from various professional organizations and companies.  Among these was the ASCE Dallas Branch Patron Award for Excellence in Civil Infrastructure to “Anisotropic” from the Dallas Academy, judged by Sean P. Merrell, Past President of the Dallas Branch.  Anisotropic was also the third place team in the regional competition. To view photos from the competition, please visit the photo gallery.
