February Meeting Main Speaker

Mr. Gary C. Thomas, P.E., is president/executive director of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART).  DART's Board of Directors named him to that position August 3, 2001.  As president/executive director, Thomas is responsible for a 13-city multi-modal transit system over a 700-square mile area.  He directs the agency's top managers and 3,400 employees, emphasizing a strong customer focus to ensure that transit riders and taxpayers receive the best transit service available.  He works closely with member city governments and the public in developing short and long-term transportation and mobility goals.
 
Mr. Thomas graduated from Texas Tech University after earning his B.S. in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Architecture.
 

Mr. Thomas is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.  He also participates in the following boards: Rail-Volution, American Public Transportation Association, McKinney Avenue Transit Authority, North Texas Commission, TxDOT 2030 Committee, Dallas Regional Mobility Commission, Collin County Regional Airport Strategic Planning Board, Regional Rail Right-of-Way Company, TCRP Oversight and Project Selection (TOPS) Committee.
