T&DI Younger Member Board Position

The Board of Governors of the Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) of ASCE has created a position on the institute’s board for a younger member of ASCE and T&DI.  A younger member is defined as someone 35 or under.  The description of the position’s responsibilities is contained in the attachment.  The person appointed to the position will be expected to participate in T&DI Board of Governors meetings and teleconferences.  There are generally three face-to-face meetings of the Board per year generally in February/March, June/July and October/November that last a day and a half.  There are teleconferences in the other months that generally last for no more than 90 minutes.  T&DI will reimburse the younger member appointed to the position in accordance with T&DI and ASCE policies.  The current policies are reimbursement of airfare (up to the value of a 14-day advance purchase coach ticket), up to $100 in incurred expenses per authorized day and a lump sum of $20 for miscellaneous expenses.  The person appointed should expect that the reimbursement from T&DI will not completely cover the total cost of their trip to the Board meeting.  As noted in the attachment the person appointed must be a member in good standing of ASCE and T&DI at the time of appointment and student members are not eligible to be appointed.

As leaders of your section/branch transportation committee/group we’re asking for your help in forwarding this announcement to your constituents for their consideration.  If one of your members is interested please have them send a short resume that highlights their activities in ASCE at the national, regional and section/branch level along with a cover letter that indicates their interest in the appointment and included a statement indicating their willingness to serve if appointed by T&DI’s Governors.  Submittals are to be sent to my attention using the contact information below.  Electronic submissions are acceptable.  Submissions are to be received no later than August 1, 2011.
