2013-2014 Internship/Shadowing Program

For Newman Smith High School

Interested in introducing a new generation to civil engineering? Consider having a student shadow you at work and learn what you do!

Problems and Solutions is a project-based research and business-school partnership developed by the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD in cooperation with the Metrocrest Chamber and Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce.  Student placements are in professional environments with exposure to training, information, concepts, observation and job procedures which are related to identified training needs and career interest. Students will develop a project on a topic related to career interest, use scientific methods of investigation to conduct in-depth research, matched with a mentor from the field, compile findings and present the findings to an audience that includes experts in the field.  This course is designed to provide students an opportunity to earn one advanced measure for the Distinguished Achievement Program.

Student placement would begin around the 4th week of school.  The student would need to shadow every Monday-Thursday for about an hour and a half.  The time frame would be approximately from 1:45 PM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday throughout the school year.   Newman Smith High School has students interested in civil and mechanical engineering which desire to participate in this program.  Please contact Ms. Price if this may be something of interest to you.
