The Dallas Branch Transportation & Development Group Committee will hold a seminar following the November 14, 2011 meeting/luncheon. The seminar is titled “Fort Worth’s Trinity River Bridges” and will highlight five new bridges crossing the Trinity River in Fort Worth. The Clearfork Main Street Bridge, the three Trinity River Vision Bridges, and the Tilley Pedestrian Bridge employ unusual designs that balance aesthetics, hydraulics, and cost for three unique design solutions. This presentation will focus on:

  • Long span capabilities of concrete spliced girders, used on the Clearfork Main Street Bridge, one of the first uses of concrete spliced girders in Texas.
  • Advantages of arch-supported stress ribbon bridges. The Tilley Pedestrian Bridge is the first bridge of this type in the United States.
  • V-pier bridge design benefits, for the Trinity River Vision Bridges.

The presentation will be made by John Dewar, P.E., S.E., Principal and Peter Kau, P.E., Lead Bridge Engineer, of Freese and Nichols, Inc. John received his BSCE from the University of Texas at Austin and his MS from the University of California, Berkeley, and has completed numerous transportation, bridge and structural projects in the Metroplex. Peter received his BS and MS from Iowa State University and has 11 years of experience in bridge design.
