IT IS TIME TO NOMINATE YOUR WORTHY COLLEAGUES FOR THE
ASCE DALLAS BRANCH 2012
“OUTSTANDING ENGINEER OF THE YEAR” AND
“OUTSTANDING YOUNG ENGINEER OF THE YEAR” AWARDS

We all have some young and/or more experienced colleagues whom we admire for their knowledge, character, professionalism and their contributions to our profession and our society. ASCE Dallas Branch has two annual awards to recognize these engineering “stars” in Dallas, Texas. Please help us find these worthy engineers by nominating them for these awards. Both forms can be downloaded from the Dallas ASCE website for your use. Please submit your nominations by Thursday, December 15, 2011, to Scott Young, P.E., Awards Chair (see nomination forms).

The “Outstanding Engineer of the Year” award recognizes established engineers who have made outstanding contributions to the civil engineering profession, the public welfare, and/or the humankind.

The “Outstanding Young Engineer of the Year” award recognizes young engineers who have made outstanding contributions to the civil engineering profession and their communities, during the early years of their careers.

The above-described Awards are presented to civil engineers at an Awards Gala, sponsored by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers during National Engineers Week, where similar awards are also presented to engineers from other engineering disciplines.

National Engineers week is celebrated each year around the time of George Washington’s birthday, which is on February 22nd. Our nation’s first president was a military engineer and a land surveyor, and he is considered our nation’s first engineer. As a general, he issued an order on June 9, 1778, calling for engineers and engineering education, which is considered to have established the first U.S. Engineering School. He directed a growing society toward technical advancements, invention and education.
