June 2026 President's Message

Posted by assistant on 06/04/2026 12:00 am  /   President's Message

Summer has arrived! Let us enjoy the warm weather before it turns into the hot, “maybe I should stay inside” weather. Please be careful, as some severe storm events can occur, and note that, of course, this can be a very fun and social time of year.

I would like to thank all volunteers who took on a strong role in May for “Younger Member Month." Incredible events were put on, and our very own ASCE Dallas Branch Director Annabel Crosby led the May Branch Meeting, the May Board Meeting – and even the May President’s Message as is tradition for our organization.

We have an important Save the Date! The 2026 Dallas and Fort Worth Branch Joint Meeting is scheduled for Friday, July 10th. – Title Sponsor, Zurn! Our two metroplex branches come together to provide a full morning of technical sessions starting at 8:30am – multiple tracks mirroring our Institute disciplines. Our keynote is none other than Caroline Mays, AICP, senior director of planning and modal programs with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). We’re not done… a 1:30pm Ethics Presentation will follow AND a Younger Member Happy Hour.  This event replaces any usual Branch Meeting for ASCE Dallas in the month of July.

For information on how your firm can explore the fantastic sponsorship and exhibitor benefits for approx. 400 professionals from around the area for education and fun, and to sign up as an individual, please contact our Vice President Amanda Koif, PE, and visit the link below: ASCE Dallas Branch - Meeting/Event Information

A note especially for many of our regular branch meeting attendees. You may notice that our registration costs for said monthly meetings have increased in time for this June meeting. I would like to say that in hindsight we should have given advanced notice of this change, as costs for the venue, ranging from room rental to the costs of service, have advanced and our Board necessitated a vote to revise our pricing. We hope you understand and believe that we are still relatively affordable for the value we bring to the engineering community in our region.

Of course we are here on the local level as the ASCE Dallas Branch, with the state level being the ASCE Texas Section. The section has open elections for important positions right now, please follow the link and get to know the candidates to cast your vote for the next series of incredible leaders: ASCE Texas Section Officer Election

We all hope the summer does not fly by too fast, but it does not hurt for consistent reminders about the great event September 16-18, 2026 in Corpus Christi – the annual ASCE CECON put on by the Texas Section.  Please see below and hope to see you there: Home - CECON 2026

One of the most impactful things that we do as a branch is raise funds each and every year for scholarships.  We have our James Griffin Scholarship for students currently in an engineering curriculum.  We have the GB Mann Scholarship, where this year we had a list of incredible applicants; where we are proud to announce the selection of five incredible students below who will be starting their journey to join our engineering community.  The ASCE Dallas Branch thereby awards $8,000 for these young leaders. Please help congratulate:

  1. Elise Hemby
  2. Jonathan Nidam
  3. Jose Gonzalez
  4. Philip Joe
  5. Cade Antosca

This June Branch Meeting starts with the morning Technical Session hosted by the Architectural Engineering Institute where the project team behind the Northwest ISD Davis High School - Levi Swinney and Patrick Glenn, AIA, from Glenn | Partners, and Jared Boyles, P.E., S.E., and Steven Blair, PE, SE from Alpha Consulting Engineers, Inc. will provide an inside look at the planning, design, and early construction efforts behind this major educational facility project.

Following the technical session will be a Keynote presentation by Paul Cristina, P.E., President & CEO of Denton County Transportation Authority, offering insights into one of the region’s most significant transportation initiatives and its impact on the future of mobility in North Texas. Our Meeting Sponsor this month is Huitt-Zollars!

We welcome you to learn more by keeping informed per our Newsletter, our Website, and of course our Social Media.

Thank you!
