May 2026 President's Message

May is our Younger Members month! We spend the month celebrating our younger members, 35 years and younger, and their great accomplishments, encouraging them to take over the branch for the month and work on their leadership skills. This means I, Annabel Crosby, the Branch Director, will be leading the May meeting! Of course I have had direction from Patrick Williams, and on the day of the meeting I will be supported by my fellow younger members.

The Younger Members recently enjoyed a happy hour at Loro Asian Smokehouse and Bar, which was jointly hosted by our branch and the UESI Institute, with Cobb Fendley graciously sponsoring our outing. If you are a part of a professional society and want to co-host an event or your company wants to sponsor any of our upcoming Younger Member events, please reach out to me at [email protected] or Amoni Madison, our Younger Member chair, at [email protected]!

I'd also love to mention a volunteer opportunity we have coming up! As you all know, we have been working diligently to make lasting impacts in our communities by presenting engineering topics to students around the Metroplex and participating in panels to support their activities! This month on May 19th, volunteers are being asked to join a panel at Plano ISD Academy High School to offer industry-specific feedback on "Implementing Innovative Ideas on Major Sustainability Issues in 3 major U.S. Cities."

More information is available here: https://dallasasce.org/articles/1789!

Please remember that our branch is now accepting applications for the G.B. Mann and J.W. Griffin scholarships, and multiple awards are ready to be granted! If you know any eligible students, please encourage them to apply! More information is available on the ASCE Dallas Branch website and if you have questions, do not hesitate to contact Chad Ostrander at [email protected].

I invite you to join us for the May meeting on May 11th, 2026. Our keynote speaker, Sunday Odiyeye, PE, with the City of Dallas and Dallas Love Field, will be presenting "Building a State-of-the-Art Fire Station in a Complex Environment". Our technical session, hosted by the Geotechnical Institute, will feature Isidoro Arjona, PE, PMP, F.ASCE, and Segu Ifham, P.E., of Raba Kistner Consultants, presenting on "Challenges in Geotechnical Barge Drilling for a Bridge Widening at Lake Granbury."

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Friday, July 10th, as we will be hosting the 2026 Dallas-Fort Worth Joint Branch Meeting. The program includes an all morning series of concurrent Technical Tracks (representing four of our institutes), leading into a Keynote Luncheon, and followed by an Ethics Session in the afternoon. Stay tuned for more information on the Happy Hour following the event on our social media! Please reach out to Amanda Koif, P.E., CFM; our Vice President at [email protected], for your opportunity to be a Sponsor and/or Exhibitor! More information to follow!

Congratulations to all of our ASCE Younger Members that are graduating this month! We are proud of your efforts and dedication, and you should be equally proud of yourselves. You are the Future of Engineering!

I look forward to seeing you all on May 11th!

Sincerely,
Annabel Crosby
