April 2026 President's Message
We encourage you to reflect on how we as civil engineers add to the infrastructure and sustainable “green” initiatives that come with our projects and endeavors. Arbor Day (last Friday in April) and Earth Day (April 22nd) await us this month; where it is also ‘Stress Awareness Month’, so please remember that as we become busy and keep what is important front of mind. I’m pleased to share that our branch is now accepting applications for the G.B. Mann and J.W. Griffin scholarships. Multiple awards will be granted, so if you know any eligible students, please encourage them to apply. More information is available on the ASCE Dallas Branch website. We have an important ---Save the Date---! Kindly mark your calendars for Friday, July 10th, as we will host the 2026 Dallas and Fort Worth Branch’s Joint Meeting. The program includes an all morning series of technical tracks (representing four of our Institutes), then leads into a Keynote Luncheon; then an Ethics Session in the afternoon. Will there even be a happy hour after all this – stay tuned. We are looking to surpass our previous attendance of 300+ people, and please reach out to Amanda Koif, P.E. our Vice President for your opportunity to be a Sponsor and/or Exhibitor! More information to follow! Contact: Amanda Koif, PE, CFM [email protected] As per tradition for our Branch, Annabel Crosby as Branch Director will lead all aspects of our organization’s activities next month. This is because we lean into the important theme of “Younger Member (YM) Month”! Ms. Crosby will prepare next month’s President’s Message, chair our Board Meeting, and serve as “Master of Ceremonies” for our May Branch Meeting. Make sure to sign-up and support! The engagement of tomorrow’s engineers is something that we take great pride in and have ramped-up with terrific volunteers of our Branch. Below are just some of the events that will have transpired by mid-April… with still time for you to reach out and lend a hand on April 10th! Our Dallas Branch partners every year to put on our Charity Golf Tournament, this year hosted by the Fort Worth Branch (next year hosted by our branch). It is fast approaching on May 1, 2026 so please check it out, where proceeds go towards our great causes! ASCE Fort Worth and Dallas Branch Golf Tournament - LinkedIn. This April Branch Meeting has its all-morning series of technical sessions hosted by our Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) and Structural Engineering Institute (SEI). For our April keynote speaker we welcome Travis Campbell speaking on the “TxDOT Dallas I 345 Project and Dallas District Update." The hard work and organization from our Technical Director Yeontae Jeong, P.E., LEED AP, CFM and others have helped shape the fantastic speakers for the morning sessions, which can be checked out per the link below: ASCE Dallas Branch - Meeting/Event Information A heads-up to our forthcoming May 11, 2026, Branch Meeting which will feature Sunday Odiyeye, P.E., Manager - CIP Programs Capital Infrastructure and Development for Dallas Love Field. We do not have a Meeting Sponsor solidified yet at the time of this Newsletter… it could be your firm! Kindly reach out to Hyunsik Moon, P.E., our Fundraising Chair for more information! Contact: [email protected]. We have some exciting things happening now and into the immediate future. Your attendance is great, but even when you are not able to join us – following our Newsletter and being interactive with our Social Media posts make all the difference in getting the word out of our programs. Thank you!
Welcome to Earth Month! April marks the time of occasional rain showers, all with the goal of bringing those May flowers… and it is a symbol of rebirth and renewal. Perhaps this applies to you all in your projects and/or your career. It certainly remains exciting when a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization such as the ASCE Dallas Branch tries to provide educational events and try to get outside as much as we can for get-togethers.
