March 2026 President's Message

Posted by newsletter on 03/04/2026 12:00 am  /   President's Message

It is starting to get warmer, at least I hope I do not jinx it by typing such a statement in the Newsletter. March is a great month with elements such as Spring Break; where for many it brings us more outside enjoying nature with our family and friends. I am also partial to the forthcoming St. Patrick’s Day for obvious reasons – please celebrate responsibly.

March is Women’s History Month with International Women’s Day on March 8th, and we are reminded of the fantastic female professionals throughout our industry. ASCE is consistently focused on driving the importance of STEM into the young minds of our future women leaders.

The engagement of tomorrow’s engineers is something that we take great pride in and have ramped-up with terrific volunteers of our Branch. Below are just some of the events we have coming up in the coming month:

  • Frisco ISD High Schools STEM Outreach Event
    • When: Tuesday March 24th & Wednesday March 25th
    • Where: Frisco ISD CTE Center
    • Contact: Isaac Aguilar, P.E. [email protected]
    • The ASCE Dallas Branch will be participating in a 2-day STEM outreach with Frisco ISD in March. There are flexible time slots available. We are looking for volunteers and presenters to spend an hour of their day with high school engineering students. There will be hands-on activities provided.

  • Mansfield ISD Texas A&M Engineering Invention Convention
    • When: Friday March 27th
    • Where: Jerry Knight STEM Academy
    • Contact: Nisha Sthapit, [email protected]
    • The campus is seeking 7–10 engineers to serve as judges for 8th-grade capstone project presentations from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

  • St Philips Elementary STEM Outreach Event
    • When: Thursday April 2nd
    • Where: St Philips School and Community Center
    • Contact: Isaac Aguilar, P.E., [email protected]
    • Similar to our recent February event, 3-4 professionals will present on civil engineering and participate in a provided hands-on activity.

  • Plano ISD Academy High School
    • When: Friday April 10th & Tuesday May 19th
    • Where: Plano ISD Academy High School
    • Contact: Chad Ostrander, [email protected]
    • A judging panel of 4-6 experts (water, environmental, transportation, structures, urban planning, etc) are needed to offer industry specific feedback on implementing innovative ideas on major sustainability issues in 3 major U.S. cities.

We are already looking ahead to the April 13, 2026 Branch Meeting; where we will have an all-morning series of technical sessions hosted by our Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) and Structural Engineering Institute (SEI). For our April keynote speaker we welcome Travis Campbell speaking on the “TxDOT Dallas I 345 Project and Dallas District Update”.

Our date is set for our traditional ASCE Dallas and Fort Worth Joint Meeting. Please keep Friday July 10, 2026 open in your calendar for our eventually opening of registration for an all-morning series of technical sessions (4 simultaneous tracks of varying institute topics); then a keynote luncheon, then an ethics seminar. Please reach out to our Vice President below if you would like to be a Title Sponsor, Table Sponsor, or Exhibitor! Contact: Amanda Koif, PE, CFM [email protected]

Our upcoming meeting on Monday March 9, 2026, sponsored by Freese & Nichols, will feature Christie J. Gotti; Senior Program Manager – North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), presenting the topic "Transportation Funding Opportunities & Lessons Learned".

In addition, we will have a morning technical session led by the three speakers below presenting "DFW Airport: International Parkway Design Build Project".

Giovanni Zavala; Project Manager - Walsh/Archer Western

Harish Rao, PE, MBA, PMP; Structural Assets Manager - DFW Int'l Airport

Veronica Martinez PE; Senior Project Manager - STV, Inc.

Please everyone stay healthy, it is National Nutrition Month after all. Thanks for your continued support of ASCE Dallas.

Kind regards,
