On October 14th, ASCE Dallas Branch hosted a STEM outreach event at St. Philip’s School and Community Center in Dallas, engaging approximately 50 middle school students ranging from 5th to 8th grade.

The two-hour session, held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., was divided into two segments. The first hour featured a presentation by Mark Boyd, Patrick Williams, and Jomes Isac, who provided an overview of civil engineering as a profession. Topics included the role of civil engineering in community development, notable infrastructure projects in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, career pathways, and personal experiences within the field.

During the second hour, students participated in an interactive, hands-on activity focused on popsicle stick bridge construction. This exercise introduced basic engineering principles and emphasized teamwork, problem-solving, and design thinking.

We are honored to support STEM education through meaningful outreach and are committed to encouraging the next generation of engineers and innovators.
