May 2025 President's Message

Dear ASCE Dallas Branch Members and Friends, 

May marks our Younger Members Month, dedicated to empowering our future leaders—members aged 35 and under. This special occasion provides an opportunity for these members to enhance their leadership skills by taking the helm of our membership meeting. I'm thrilled to announce that Brayden Hoffman, our Branch Director and a younger member, will lead the meeting with the support of several of our younger members.

Join us for this unique event on May 12, 2025. Ashton Strong, PE, Deputy Director for Transportation Planning & Development with the Dallas District, will deliver our keynote presentation titled “IH-30 Canyon & Major Projects Update.” Additionally, David Thompson, Vice President for Transportation Practice at Huitt Zollars, will deliver our morning technical session titled “Old Iron Bridge Rehabilitation.”

We are also proud to announce that our ASCE colleagues—Tue Minh Vu, Gholamreza Moghimi, Georgios Chatzikyriakidis, and Eric Godat from SMU—have been honored with the J. James R. Croes Medal for their paper, “Characterization of the Inherent Resilience of Large Cities to Natural Hazards”. This prestigious award recognizes their exceptional contribution to engineering research.
