Hello ASCE Dallas Members,

I am excited to announce that May is Younger Member Month for the ASCE Dallas Branch! During this month, our younger members, members who are 35 years of age or younger, will be taking on additional branch responsibilities and stretching their leadership skills to “take over” the May membership meeting. As Branch Director, I am honored to be leading this month’s branch activities and so excited for the opportunity to showcase the dedication and talent of our younger members.

If you’d like a chance to meet and socialize with your ASCE Dallas younger members while ALSO having the opportunity to keep White Rock Lake clean and litter-free, then you’re in luck! We have an upcoming volunteer event on May 11 with “For the Love of the Lake” to participate in the Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce Up. At this event, volunteers will collect litter throughout White Rock Lake Park, up White Rock Creek, and along the shoreline. Keep an eye out on the newsletter and social media for more info on how to get involved, I hope to see many of y’all there!

There could not be a more exciting month to share that one of our own ASCE Dallas younger members, Nalah Williams, was selected as one of the ASCE 2024 New Faces of Civil Engineering! This is an incredible accomplishment, and we are extremely lucky to have someone with her drive and dedication serving in the ASCE Dallas Branch leadership. Read more about her incredible journey from engineer to owner of her own company by age 26 here.

I hope everyone has made plans to attend our upcoming meeting on May 13, sponsored by Ameritex Pipe & Products, LLC. We have an exciting presentation planned on the topic of the Lewisville Dam Safety Modification presented by Lt. Col. Josh Haynes, Deputy Commander of US Army Corps of Engineers. In addition to the keynote presentation, we will also be hosting a morning technical session featuring State Highway (SH) 121 presented by Ms. Margie Morris of TxDOT.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars. On Friday, July 19th, the Dallas Branch will host the 2024 Dallas and Fort Worth Branch’s Joint Meeting. Like years past, the program will include numerous technical sessions, a keynote presentation during a plated lunch, and plenty of networking opportunities.

We will continue to celebrate our Centennial by sharing some interesting, historical information about civil engineering projects, and how civil engineers delivered those projects, during the fourth decade of our Branch’s existence (1954-1963).

I look forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming May membership meeting! In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Best Regards,
Amanda Koif, PE, CFM
