On Saturday, February 3rd, the ASCE Dallas Branch proudly participated in the DISD STEM Expo, Texas's largest STEM exposition drawing an annual attendance of over 5000 individuals. At our engaging booth, students took part in the Penny Bridge Activity, an exciting activity where they constructed a bridge using just one sheet of paper and then tested its strength by stacking pennies on top. We were thrilled to witness the creativity and engineering prowess of the participants, with a special shoutout to a middle school student , Jesse, whose bridge impressively held a remarkable 450 pennies! The activity garnered immense enthusiasm from both students and parents, with many returning to make adjustments to their designs or spending extended periods exploring the principles of civil engineering. Our heartfelt thanks go to our DISD Champion, Samantha Vail, for organizing the event and our dedicated volunteers Patrick Williams, Jomes Isac, Dana Hajhamdan, and Isaac Kehram, for their invaluable contributions to making this event a success and fostering an appreciation for civil engineering within our community.
