ASCE  Texas Section Hot Topics

Section Call for Volunteers: Section/Branch members can get give back to their profession and get

engaged across the state by submitting a volunteer application at www.TexASCE.org/volunteer. Short and long-term opportunities available within Section Committees, Chapters, and during events. These types of opportunities help retain members and keep them involved at the local and state level.

Students encouraged to volunteer on committees to gain those invaluable early connections.

Texas Civil Engineering Conference (CECON)

o Spread the word about CECON 2023: “The Future Is Now”, headed back to San Marcos,

September 20-22

o View full schedule with speaker and session details, including four (4) amazing keynotes!

o Registration Open – Advance online registration rates end August 31.

Consider sponsoring 2-3 local ASCE Student Chapter students to attend

CECON 2023 Poster Session

  • Help spread the word about the CECON 2023 Poster Session opportunity.
  • A great opportunity to practice presenting on a smaller scale in preparation for larger, national or global presentations or competitions.
  • Not to mention, the boundless local networking opportunities!
  • While primarily focused on our future engineers, students, and YMs, all members are encouraged to participate in the Poster Session. See flyer for details.
  • The Poster Session is part of the annual ASCE Texas Civil Engineering Conference (CECON).
  • Undergraduate & graduate students, Younger Members, and professional members are invited to showcase their technical work through visual displays and present their research, while answering questions from conference attendees.

 

Other Texas Section Activities and Programs to engage in:

o Call for Section 2024-25 Officer nominations opening soon. All Branches and State Institutes Chapters are encouraged to submit nominations.

o Improvements and clarifications of future election guidelines was requested.

Including consequences if guidelines are not adhered to.

o Honors Committee is developing 2 new Section awards: one for students & one for YMs. The

attendees were excited to see new awards for these categories.

o Project & Individual Award nominations opening soon

 

ASCE Leader Training Committee

o Monthly leader focused webinars. Branch Best Practice Exchanges. Orientations, Resource,

and more!

o 2024 Multi Region Leadership Conference (MRLC): Jan. 12-13 for Regions 3,6, & 7 in Kansas

City

o These conferences provide an excellent mix of leadership training and information on

ASCE resources, activities, and programs.

 

2024 Membership Term

o Annual Membership is a calendar year (January to December)

o Renewals for 2024 are open! Renew online (www.asce.org/membership) or email

[email protected]. Society-only/assigned members can email to get Section/Branch dues added on. It was emphasized what kind of impact of doing a little bit of work to remind

assigned members to add on Section/Branch dues can make. Once it’s added on, it will automatically stay added until the member requests it removed.

o Members who don’t renew by December 31, are considered lapsed after March 31 (3 month

grace period)

o Section dues will increase $5 beginning for 2024 and beyond

o The new TxDOT Partnership Program for ASCE member discounts was discussed. It was

requested that marketing of this offering be conducted at the Section and Branch level.

 

Section 2023 Membership Sweepstakes

o New members could win a drone or 3D printer

o Ends October 31
