Howdy ASCE Dallas Branch Members!

February is Engineers Week and I hope each one of you will take a minute to ponder the work we each contribute to our communities and the public health, safety and welfare.  As civil engineers, I believe we are improving the public’s quality of life.  Please consider nominating a deserving engineer for 2023 Engineer of the Year and 2023 Young Engineer of the Year for the Dallas Branch.    Jonathan Brower is our Honors Chair.

This month’s presentation will be about the Able Pump Station.   Much of Dallas relies on the Trinity River levees and the sumps to collect the drainage and then discharge it from the Stemmons Corridor and Downtown Dallas into the Trinity River.  The Able Pump station is a huge, modern achievement and was recognized by the Texas Section as the 2021  Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement.  I hope you can join us in-person or remotely for that presentation.

Greg Klein from WJE was our January speaker and discussed the report WJE prepared about the Florida condominium collapse.  The video is available for our members to watch on the Dallas ASCE You Tube channel.   I appreciate Douglas Smith (WJE) for offering this very interesting presentation  for our branch members.    If you have a suggestion for a meeting topic, please send to me at [email protected]

Reece Taylor, Nalah Williams and I will be attending the ASCE 2023 Multi-Region Leadership Conference in Denver in February.  Reece is our branch President Elect and Nalah is our Younger Member chair.

I appreciate our branch members who volunteered at the Future Cities Competition.  We have other upcoming volunteer opportunities in our schools and hope you will contact me or one of the branch leaders if you are interested. Also, we will announce details regarding application packets for the G.B. Mann Scholarships that are awarded annually soon.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to serve you as your Dallas Branch President, and I look forward to hearing from you!
