Vernon Ginnis – TXLTAP

Topic: Overview of TXLTAP and Best Practices in Equipment Preventive Maintenance. 

Petty Officer Vernon Ginnis, Ret was born and raised in Rochester, New York. Vernon proudly served his country as part of the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees from 1994-2014. He also served on the USS Platte, Navy Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB), Navy Cargo Handling Port Group and the Naval Construction Regiment. Vernon joined the University of Texas at Arlington- Division for Enterprise Development (DED), Public Works Institute (PWI) as a Heavy Equipment instructor in 2014. He is also a certified Crane Inspector, Operator, Maintenance Supervisor and Mechanic. In Vernon’s free time, he is a Global Building Organization (GBO) Professional Bodybuilder and Certified Personal Trainer.

Dr. Matthew Fadden-WJE

Topic:  Structural Insight on Champlain’s Towers South Collapse

Dr. Matthew Fadden joined the South Florida office of WJE in 2018 with ten years of experience in structural engineering research and consulting. His primary areas of expertise include the design, analysis, and evaluation of steel structures (hot-rolled and cold-formed) and reinforced concrete structures. Additionally, Matt has expertise in structural evaluation using finite element modeling and structural testing. His experience also includes seismic design, structural vibrations, offshore structures, and litigation support.

Prior to joining WJE, Matt was a professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas. There, his research areas included modular systems and connections for steel buildings, bolted and welded connections, ancillary sign structures, structural vibrations, and additive manufacturing for civil infrastructure. Matt has authored many technical publications in refereed journals and given numerous conference presentations.

Matt has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute. He is currently the ASCE Structural Engineering Institute Structural Connections Committee chair.
