We would love to have ASCE members help with the STEM education with the Girl Scouts.  There are two upcoming opportunities, one this summer and another this fall.  Please let me know if you would potentially be interested and I can get you more information.  This will have ASCE members share their expertise and time to make Girl Scout engineering programs even more impactful for more Girl Scouts. There are summer opportunities coming up and an engineering program we will be hosting in the Fall this year that I think will suit your volunteers well!

  • Job Shadowing – Summer 2022
    • Beginning mid-June, high school Girl Scouts participate in a series of career exploration and job shadowing opportunities. Job shadowing entails individual opportunities for the girls to be matched with a professional in their field of interest. Job shadowing can be done virtually or in-person where the girl will meet with the volunteer to learn about what they do and sit in on a meeting (virtually) or shadow them at their job (in-person). Virtual opportunities last 2-3 hours and in-person can be full or half day opportunities. The volunteer will be able to provide an insightful experience for the girl; they will get to learn about the girl’s interests, what she likes to do, share their career journey and what excites them about their job.
  • Cookie Box Creations – Fall 2022
    • Cookie Box Creations teams middle school and high school girls with architects and engineers in a design contest to transform Girl Scout cookie boxes into free-standing structures. Using STEM elements, the activity challenges girls to develop critical thinking skills, and promote cooperation and team building. This program runs over several weeks to allow Girl Scouts to collaborate deeply with the volunteers and follow a complete design and build process, from ideation to execution.
